I should totally post about MoCCA. So here goes.
I shared a table with Jess Fink (
finkenstein), Phil McAndrew (
heroprotagonist), Kristin Hogan, Jonathan T. Russell, and Always Comix. Crowded, but it seemed to work out ok. Especially ok considering just how price gouging the entrance fee is! GEEZ. And they're raising it a ridiculous amount, too.
I agree with the complaints about it being 1) hot, and 2) poorly organized. They seemed like they didn't have their shit together AT ALL. SPX, you've totally won me over for organization, fun, and location. MoCCA... I only go to you because it's NYC and I live here. However, due to the fact that I split the table with so many people, I actually did manage to make a meager profit. Into the Hello Kitty bank it went! (yes, my piggy bank is actually a Hello Kitty bank).
I traded for some awesome comics. Erin Griffin's "Ramona and Imogene" and her newest "Peaches gets Pinched"... both wonderful and great. So cute. So nicely made. Sally Bloodbath's "Girls Don't Make Passes at Boys with Moustaches"... also great. The only book I actually bought (I only get $30/wk allowance and I'm trying to, oh, I don't know, save up for that honeymoon we never took) was "The Moth or the Flame" which I've been meaning to buy for, like, forever. I really wanted to get "Mourning Star 2", but no such luck money-wise.
boxbrown's "Unsyndicated Press" was also great. OH! And a great surprise and wonderful treat was
piratecore's amazing bundle of stuff. I feel honored to even get one! I'm sure I'm forgetting things (both great and small), but please forgive me because...
I got the nerd flu. Yes. I left MoCCA and that night had a fever and a sore throat. It lingered. I think my fever is mostly gone, but I have a super sore throat.
One last thing about MoCCA, though, I went to the Frank Santoro and Gary Panter talk (which was incredible, I thought), and left having drawn this:

On to other things. I've been busy at work for my intensive graphic design portfolio class. I did this today, sickness and all. I think it's a start in the right direction:
